ABSTRACT: Innovations in Assessing Career Readiness in Vocational Students explores new approaches to evaluating students' readiness for the workforce upon completion of vocational programs. This study investigates innovative assessment tools and methodologies that measure essential skills and competencies required by employers. The objectives were: to identify key components of career readiness in vocational education, to assess current practices and challenges in assessing these competencies, and to propose recommendations for enhancing career readiness assessment in vocational curricula. A survey design was employed to collect detailed data from vocational educators, employers, and recent graduates, providing insights into assessment practices and their alignment with industry expectations. A sample size of 200 respondents was chosen using a purposive sampling technique to include participants with expertise in career readiness assessment and vocational training. The case study focused on the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, Delta State. Findings indicated a need for comprehensive assessment frameworks that include technical skills, soft skills, and workplace readiness competencies. It is recommended that vocational institutions should integrate simulations, portfolio assessments, and employer feedback mechanisms into career readiness evaluations, provide career counseling and mentoring programs, and collaborate with industry partners to ensure graduates are adequately prepared for successful careers in their chosen fields.
